Ascent Trip ReportRainier Mountaineering, Inc (RMI) trip. day 1: gear check. day 2: snow school. day 3: climb from Paradise Visitor Center to Camp Muir. rest, eat, hydrate & get up about 10: 30 pm... start the climb over the Cowlitze Glacier about 11:30 pm in good conditions. breaks at Ingraham Flats & just above Disappointment Cleaver. two aluminum ladders to climb between rests 2 and 3. up to the volcano rim just after sunrise and across the x to the Columbia Crest, arriving about 6:30 am. skies mostly clear with good visibility but winds building the last few hours such that it's blowing about 50 knots on the summit. decent wind chill... maybe -15 degree F I quess. quick touch and go of the summit and down we go. windy but still clear. I go quite slowly and carefully on the way down. about one hour break at Camp Muir then down the dirty yet icy snow field. legs did OK. sandra did fantastic!
4th time on Rainier was the charm!
