Ascent Trip Report

Access: Google Maps got me to the summit, but before blindly following it just make sure you are taking E Shaw Mountain Road. This road is a very narrow dirt road (passing oncoming cars is sometimes tricky) and there were some very deep ruts when I visited. It was easy for my 4Runner, but a sedan could not make it up without bottoming out a few times. I saw a few crossovers with relatively low clearance at the top, but that is probably the bare minimum. A bit before the summit I reached a gate, so I parked there and walked the road to the summit.

The Climb: From the gate it is just a quick road hike to the summit, which has communication towers and a benchmark at the top. Resist the urge to go cross country, as the road is much easier.

My Thoughts: Views from the top were quite good, but otherwise this a pretty unremarkable peak. Near the summit is a bird of prey observatory and they seemed a bit disappointed I didn't stop to talk birds with them, but I was on a tight schedule this day.

I am always looking for climbing partners, so feel free to contact me if you want to team up.
