Ascent Trip ReportA bit of local history - if you drive in via Ferry Basin you will pass many abandoned buildings and corrals near the section 33-34 boundary. (47.3683,-114.5215) The 1959 Perma quad shows this as the Forest Service Winter Range. It was used for wintering FS horses and mules that were used to supply fire fighting crews in the summer. A mule & horse breeding program was also carried out here. This facility was closed in 1962. For further details see:
