Ascent Trip ReportHike stats include trips for water. For dayhikers, it would be 25.7 miles round trip and 4900 ft of gain (includes extra 400 each way).
Surprised there were zero mosquitoes from TH to campsite. That would not be the case the next two days. But they still weren't enough to require deet.
Chose a tent site to set up my climb of Gilbert the next day. Left me about a 1/2 mile from the nearest water though.
Found good stream (H2O on track) across the trail 1/2 mile from camp. But my frozen bottles were still full. This was unfortunate because the remaining streams before Gunsight Pass were dry. I then had to contemplate taking either the long trail or the "toilet" chute on the way back. Fortunately, there were sufficient snow cornices at Anderson Pass to produce a stream below (MELT). This water is probably gone when all the snow has melted.
The views were great from Kings. I could see the whole length of the Uintas, and all the way to Mt Nebo.
The shortcut around "Dome Pk" worked well. Ascending, I stayed too high from the south shoulder, and it was nearly constant talus hopping and up and down. Better route on return, where I stayed on trail longer, then across mostly meadow, and then short talus climb up onto the shoulder. Another case of making it more difficult by trying to save elevation.
The final climb from Anderson Pass was more difficult than I expected. Not technical; just seemed to never end.
