Ascent Trip ReportStarted from Woods Lake, took the well defined trail towards Winemucca Lake. From there a few use trails go around the Lake, leading to semi steep class 2 (3 if you want some variety) terrain up the ridge. It really is very easy, I was surprised given the imposing Round Top and Sisters near by. I mostly followed Bob McLaughlin's track for the ascent.
After summiting I descended back to Winnemucca Lake, and with several hours of daylight left decided to summit Round Top for my 4x. It had been about 4 years since my last visit, but everything looked very familiar. I did notice that I was less comfortable on the final class 3 climb to the true highpoint than I was in previous years. Still made it without any issues. On descent I completed a loop by taking the trail down to Woods Lake from Round Top Lake. A very enjoyable day! |
