Ascent Trip Report

Started and finished at the Flat Mtn Pond TH, reaching Whiteface and Sandwich Mtn.

My route, from Flat Mtn Pond TH: Bennett Street - Whiteface/Intervale Rd - McCrillis Path - Blueberry Ledge Cutoff - Blueberry Ledge Tr - Rollins Tr 0.3 mi to Whiteface summit - McCrillis Tr - Flat Mtn Pond Tr - Bennett Street Tr up/down Sandwich Mtn and back to Flat Mtn Pond TH

Total distance 25 miles with 6500' ascent. 7 hrs, 10 min total time, with running and some hiking at times.

This was a long, interesting loop through the Sandwich Range that included some lightly-used trails. The McCrillis Path (not to be confused with McCrillis Trail) was mostly flat or gently rolling and enjoyable after its initial ascent. The Blueberry Ledge Cutoff started out easy, became rough near the top and re-connected with the Blueberry Ledge Tr at some ledgy areas. The McCrillis Trail was steep and rough near the top, but the lower part was a very nice meander through the hardwood forest. Bennett Street Tr on Sandwich Mtn is pleasant most of the way with soft footing. The lower 2 miles of the Bennett Street Tr (between the Flat Mtn Pond Tr and the parking area) is also in good shape.
