Ascent Trip Report

Saw this feature on the USGS map as driving by after hiking Sugarloaf Mountain. At first blush it appeared to be 300 foot riser but once I got down and to my laptop I could calculate the actual prominence and it fell short. Darn! Still another place to train in the area on public land but this was not easy to figure out. The USGS map shows Forest Service Road FR 839 connecting to County Road 77 near Tarryall Dam but it no longer does that. Most of the area around the peak is now private covenant ranch residential lands.

But if you drive up Al Gluch Road and turn left on Willow Way and then left again on Eagle Rock Way that road eventually turns into the remnant of FR 839 and you will find signs indicating you are on Forest roads. Park there and hike up. You cannot continue to CR77 it is now blocked off you have to return the way you came
