Ascent Trip ReportThere are multiple routes to this summit. The I-70 exit labeled Cedar Point (exit 348) offers a view of the summit tower but no route to get there. The next 2 exits offer routes: Exit 352 & Exit 354. Since David Olson reported mud and Exit 354 had a big mud hole at its start, I tried the other route first; the other route also looked shorter. Leaving I-70 at Exit 352, turn North onto CR 183 (not South onto a better road). Cross 2 cattle guards & pass through cow pasture with cows & calves along the roadway between them. After 2.5 or 3 miles, arrive at a signed junction with a view of the summit tower amid an army of wind turbines. Turn right (east) onto CR 138 (a left dead-ends at a ranch). In about a half mile, reach a T intersection with CR 187. Go left (north), since a right will take you back to I-70 at Exit 354! In less than a half-mile at the next intersection (another T), turn left onto CR 141 and go a half mile to the tower on Cedar Point. All these roads were good gravel roads. |
