Ascent Trip ReportHiked Gillespie as a combo with Cape Lookoff. Contrary to older CoHP reports, I found no summit signage. Was it blown down, obscured, or did I simply miss it? If anyone knows about summit marker please post (a photo would be helpful too). This was a very non-descript summit (along with Cape Lookoff), which I determined only by marking GPS waypoints which provided readings of the elevation. Also contrary to earlier reports, I did find a good view of Breadloaf and Grant from the summit ridge, partially obscured but nonetheless good enough. Started at Brandon Gap at 0715 hr; reached Cape Lookoff summit at about 0823 hr., and Gillespie at about 0913 hr, back at car at just before 1100 hr. Great hike, highly recommended except for the confusion regarding true summits. Per my report on Cape Lookoff, blowdowns and deadfall across the Long Trail in the spruce-fir zone between Horrid and Gillespie was significant. Distance is from summit of Cape Lookoff and elevation gain is from low point of saddle between the two.
