Ascent Trip Report

Group of 5 Mountaineers ascended Yakima after a successful summit of Three Way Peak earlier in the day. From the PCT parking lot at Chinook Pass (Sheep Lake Trailhead) we headed up the meadow following an obvious boot track to the north ridge of Yakima Peak. We crossed the ridge and followed the boot track back to the west ridge of Yakima and ascended the ridge generally staying to the right side of the west ridge occasionally dropping down 10-20 feet when we had obstacles such as large rocks or some exposure. We occasionally had to use veggie belays to get around a few sections. At the summit block, a couple of us friction scrambled up climber's left to the get to the summit itself, while a few others found a path through some trees to the summit. We descended generally the same way we came up. 1 hour 50 minutes up, about 1 hour back to the car. No equipment used. Good views of Chinook Pass, Mt. Rainier, and surrounding mountains.
