Ascent Trip ReportTook the 9:30 bus from Budapest to Kékesteto, where I realized I was too close to the top to call it an ascent. So I decided to head down to Mátraháza to an elevation of 714 metres, making the total gain 300 metres, which is at least better than the basically zero metres gain from the Kékesteto bus station.
Said and done, it ended up being a down and up kind of ascent, walking on the main car road. Maybe not a super exciting trail, but it did the job. The weather was pretty good, very hot with a few occasional raindrops. The summit was reached in no-time. Although after a few minutes spent at the top, the sky turned dark from one second to the other and a sudden massive skyfall drained me and all my belongings in the blink of an eye. At least the ascent was complete, so I snapped a few pictures and ran to seek shelter. Hungary’s highest point, check! |
