Ascent Trip ReportProbably the most ideal weather day you could have to hike a mountain which meant the trails would be crowded. I expected there to be unprepared people, but the amount of them was staggering.
My friend Jill and I ascended Washington via Huntington Ravine Trail. I only consider it fun because it was dry. I would not hike this trail if it was wet or raining. In addition to hikers, some rock climbers had made their way to some of the steep overhangs. I wouldn't do that either.
We reached the top of the headwall and I continued on towards the auto road to complete the trail for the Terrifying 25 list. Jill stayed behind at the junction with the Alpine Trail. I returned to where she was and we made our way over to Tuckerman's via the Alpine Garden Trail. At the junction with Tuckerman's we sat and waited for our friend Ryan who was participating in the Sea to Summit triathlon. The final part of the race was a run/hike up Washington. After about 90 minutes he arrived and looked exhausted. We escorted him the final mile to the summit where we celebrated his amazing accomplishment.
This was my 4th summit of Washington and could not believe how perfect the weather was. Pleasant temps and no wind!
Ryan hitched a ride down with his wife and Jill and I began our decent. We went Crawford-->Davis-->Glen Boulder Trail. We passed over the summit of Slide Peak so I could check that off the Trailwrights 72 list. We returned to our cars around 5:30 just as the skies opened up. Overall a terrific day of hiking.
