Ascent Trip Report

After spending some time relaxing at the beaches on the south end of Lake Willoughby, we wanted to get a hike in. We picked Mount Pisgah on the east side of the glacier carved lake, mostly because it is higher. To avoid crowds we went to the northern trail called North Trail which had a small area to park along the east shore of the lake. The trail rose quickly in the forest and then climbed more slowly along a ridge to the top. There were several viewpoints before we reached the top that we went to look at. They sit on some cliffs and have a bird's nest view of the lake. There were storms in the area so we heard some thunder and saw dark clouds moving about, all while boats were pulling tubers across the lake and the beaches stayed packed. The summit had a cairn, but was still in the woods with no views. Therefore, the viewpoints, although sometimes a couple minutes off the main trail and down some vert, were well worth it. We went down the way we came up.
