Ascent Trip ReportThis is Alabama. I flew into Memphis. I then proceeded on a 1,955-mile road trip through the southern states to bag the highpoints in MO, AR, LA, FL, AL, and MS. Here is AL, highpoint number 22/51 for me and ranked 35/51. This is a drive-up highpoint. There is a small fee that you pay to the State Ranger. You then park at the top next to the tower that was built by the CCC funded by FDR. The USGS disc is on the left side (as you face the tower). The climb to the top of the tower was open and the views were marginal (due to the poor design of the windows). There is a small museum next door to the tower. There are plenty of primitive campsites along with a luxurious lodge whose pool has some of the best views around.
