Ascent of Mount Phillips on 2004-08-05Date: | Thursday, August 5, 2004 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Mount Phillips | Location: | USA-New Mexico | Elevation: | 11741 ft / 3578 m |
Ascent Trip ReportThe climb started at the Clear Creek Camp, then ascended steeply upward toward Mt. Phillips. There were not many switchbacks and as the trees thinned, so did the air, and the ascent became more difficult. The trail stayed below the treeline until a hundred feet from the summit. One of my climbing partners "bonked," or ran out of energy on the way up and almost went into shock once we reached the summit and he took his pack off. We fed him gatorade and pilot biscuits.
From the summit, many surrounding peaks could be seen including Touch Me Not Peak and Baldy Mountain to the north. |
