Ascent Trip ReportA couple days after doing Mt. Lassen, Dave (Wes) texts me and asks if we could do another hike on Sunday. He had been working in Truckee and was still there, but had the day off. Since he lives on the coast and needs some time at altitude to prepare for our upcoming Mt. Elbert attempt, we looked at the options and decided to do Rose Knob from the Tahoe Meadows (east) side. This would give us a respectable length hike, and all of it above 8400 ft. elevation. In fact, most of it above 9000 ft.
We had done Incline Peak the year before, so were both familiar with the first part of the route. It went well, and we even encountered a bit of snow before reaching the saddle at the turn to Incline Peak. Continuing on, we eventually became a bit confused when both our GPS units were saying we were already farther than what I'd anticipated the total distance to the peak would be. Somehow, I came up with the idea that it would be about a 7 mile round trip, when it turned out actually being 9 miles! With Lassen being so recent, we weren't really looking for quite that much, but it was ok. Goal accomplished, another Nevada Sierra Peak bagged, and several hours hiking above 9000 ft. with my best friend from high school. Great day!
