Ascent Trip ReportI parked my car just off the road at the beginning of a field access road near a 90 degree turn where I was .94 air miles north of the Baca County highpoint. After I started hiking I immediately reached a barbed wire fence with signs reading,"Entering Public Lands," which made me feel much more comfortable parking my car here. Soon after crossing the fence I reached a jeep road which I followed into a cirque where it ended and I had to climb up a steep slope to the very broad plateau of Carrizo Mountain. I reached the plateau after hiking for 17 minutes and I found a fence line that followed the Baca/Las Animas County line. I reached a pile of rocks around a fence post after hiking for 34 minutes that appeared to be the location of the highest point in Baca County. I followed a different return route to my car by descending the closest bluff to the road I was parked on instead of descending into the valley near the cirque. This was a much more pleasant route and it would be a much better ascent path. I was back at my car after covering 1.05 miles in 26 minutes from the highpoint.
