Ascent Trip Report

The sign on Jack Mountain Road described by Jim Retemeyer is gone. The road you want to go up the mountain is about 0.2 miles past the vertical post labelled T10R8 which is the county line. I found a lot of weeds in the center of the track going north and decided to hike from there. I was being a bit overly cautious since I found the road to be good all the way up to the parking spot at its crest west of the summit. Most any vehicle can make it so I suggest driving up there. The route to the top is then a short bushwhack of only about 0.2 miles with a gain of 280ft.

Check point details: The fee at the Sixmile checkpoint is $15 per person for the day for a non-resident and is free if you are over 70. Open from 5am to 9pm daily. There is an extra charge of $15 per day if you want to camp.

Driving directions: In Ashland head west on Route 11 and just across the Aroostook River turn left onto Garfield Road. Reset odometer here.
At 0.7 miles turn right onto American Realty Road which goes past lumber mills and becomes unpaved.
At 5.6 miles reach the Sixmile checkpoint. Past the checkpoint go left on Pinkham Road.
At 13.7 miles reach a bridge crossing Machias River.
At 13.9 miles go right onto Jacks Road. (sign here)
At 23.4 miles reach the junction with the road up mountain on your right.
