Ascent Trip Report

This was the first peak in a six P2K California/Oregon trip. Came in the same way as Dean Gaudet from Hwy 89, but with my Forester was able to drive all the way to the end of the road where Ken Jones parked. Logging seems to be long finished with only the ripped up landscape left. Hiking uphill though you quickly leave the clearcut and soon are up on the crater rim, the ridge which circles around to the summit. There's a definite use trail you find and lose frequently; it winds its way up, alternating between rock and brush. As noted Shasta is right there next to you, and on this bright clear day it was quite marvelous, rising almost 6000' higher. A
