Ascent Trip ReportThere is a Trailhead on FR-7611. It's accessed using FR-76 to FR-176 (also called FR-153) and a trailhead access road (FR-7611). From FR-76 its only about 3/10 mile down FR-176 to the trailhead access road. That road is marked with a brown fiberglass sign that is not visible until after you turn. It has "trail" on the top. This road is noted on some maps as FR-7611. Also notice on some maps that FR-176 is shown as FR-153; but it is signed as "176'. If you read the other trip reports you will note that they started from FR-176 since the trailhead access road was impassable. Now you can drive to the trailhead and beyond. Access to the trailhead requires HC 4WD which includes FR-76 and FR-176.
From the trailhead you have two choices: bushwhack up the ridgeline from the trailhead parking area to the HP or make it a road hike. For the road hike: take Trail 164, which is actually a drivable 4WD road, for about half a mile. You will encounter a barbed wire fence with a green hiker stile and a forest sign: SBT 164 -19. Instead of crossing the fence head northeast following a road that parallels the fence. (See photo) It's about a half mile to the HP from the gate. The negatives to the road route is the loss of 130 ft from the trailhead and slightly more distance.
