Ascent Trip ReportAccess: As a well-known state park, access is very easy. Google Maps will take you there and the roads are paved the entire way to the summit. You will need a Discovery Pass to access Steptoe Butte legally.
The Climb: My grandparents were visiting me at my new hometown of Moscow, ID and I made sure to give them the Palouse experience. First on the list was sunrise on Steptoe Butte, followed by a trip to Palouse Falls. We drove all the way to the top and watched an incredible sunrise and lightning storm combo.
My Thoughts: As the highest point for miles and miles in most directions, the views from the top are incredible. Add in a sunrise on the beautiful Palouse landscape, and this was a great way to start the day.
I am always looking for climbing partners, so if you are based in or around northern Idaho feel free to contact me.
