Ascent Trip Report

TH parking at Rhus Ridge was full, so I parked at Foothill College which added about 15 minutes each way. First .9 mile fairly steep old (presumably) ranch road ascended to a gap. From the gap, the next half mile or so was on newer single track trail which contoured around the south side of the ridge. From last trail to Hidden Villa, trail continued up on moderate grade with numerous switchbacks which made this section less strenuous than the first part. Once the power lines were reached, the trail became an older service road which ascended at the same or steeper grade than the first .9 miles. Generally shady until the power lines then the road ascended an open ridge with very little shade. Tremendous views from the top-Mt Tam and Mt Diablo to the north, Mission Peak, Rose Peak and Mt Hamilton to the east. Mt Umunum in the southeasterly direction. Total ascent time two hours and 40 minutes and about 5.3 miles from Foothill College. Wonderful day.
