Ascent Trip ReportWe (Steve Moffitt and Barry Mothershead with his dog Sheba) started hiking at 07:00 up the Matanuska Peak Trail at the end of Smith Drive. We were at the top at noon (5 hours). Sunny and warm on top, so we stayed to enjoy the view and take photos. Vern Bush (with his dog Frosty) met us on top at 14:00 and we started back down at 14:30. There were long, steep snow fields that we glissaded down on our feet. The snow was just the right consistency to go long distances safely. Back to the trailhead by about 19:00.
