Ascent Trip Report

I had tried to get up here a couple of years ago and had found myself instead on Ryan Peak, for various reasons. While this is a really pretty area, the hike is a decently long round trip and there are lots of bikers so I didn't really want to repeat this one totally on foot. So I brought my bike, riding as many sections as I could on the way up. I probably walked at least 80% of the ascent and left my bike in Elk Flat. On the way down, the trail was a bit above my skill level from Elk Flat to the top of Mahogany Canyon trail 220, so I walked a good chunk of that too. Still, the descent of Mahogany Canyon was worth all the hassle, as the last 4 miles were an amazing ride which only took me about 20 minutes. My enjoyment was compounded by an approaching T-storm as I rode the fun turns, dips and straightaways of the canyon. Heck, after today I think I finally know the full appeal of mountain biking. 16ish miles round-trip, 5 hours car-to-car.
