Ascent Trip Report$10 to pay to park now. Amazing hike. You first go past historic mining camps then up to St Mary's Glacier which is just a permanent snow/ice field but very fun and attractive. We got there so early no tourists yet we had snow to ourselves. My ribs were still hurting and I wanted to protect from another slip and fall so i used microspikes for safety. Glenn was in mountain goat mode and plodded on without them. He hiked far stronger than me all day.
The trip up James is easy all class 1 work even the "glacier" but the views become more and more interesting as you begin to look down on the alpine lakes - there are so many. The views from this county highpoint today were outstanding with much snow still around.
Great views, St Mary's glacier, County HP, nice exercise, bluebird day, and terrific formations around the alpine lakes - i had to give today a 9 out of 10! ohhhhhh and we only passed 2 guys on the way up and passed on young woman later in the day in the opposite directions so we had solitude too!
Full trip stats on the third peak report but bottom line we did all three peaks about 13 miles but under 5000 feet of vertical for the day
