Ascent Trip Report

The final stretch of the minimum maintenance road leading to this high point is fine; we did it in a midsize SUV rental, and a sedan would certainly be possible. However it is rutted in spots and I would probably not drive this road at all in wet conditions.

At the end of the road you will find a barbed-wire gate with a solid lever to open it and re-latch it. No livestock were in the tall grassy fields. These grassy fields represent the best scenery of the prairie in my opinion.

There is a 2nd barbed-wire fence right at the highest contour, and although there is another gate, the lever was wired down so I climbed over the fence instead.

From here it was on to Merrick County, only 5 miles south.

-minimum maintenance road is fine, we did in midsize SUV rental, but deeply rutted and would NOT do if at all wet
-nice lever on gate to open and latch
-tall grassy fields, the best of the prairie
-2nd barbed wire fence @ highest contour, another great lever latch though wired in place so did not use gate and instead climbed over fence
-on to...
