Ascent Trip ReportAccess: Cottonwood Butte is a simple drive up on a paved road and Google Maps will take you to the summit area. To reach the true summit, a spur road heads off north for an additional tenth of a mile or so. This short road requires decent clearance and anyone with a sedan will want to walk that tenth of a mile.
The Climb: From the highest point you can drive to, standing atop the true summit only takes stepping out of your car and gaining a few feet in elevation. There is a benchmark on a rocky outcrop adjacent to a few buildings.
My Thoughts: This peak is really only of interest if you are into climbing 2,000 ft prominence peaks, but the very easy access makes it a nice side trip if you are traveling along highway 95. There are some decent views from the top, but I didn't stay long due to an approaching thunderstorm.
I am always looking for climbing partners, so feel free to contact me if you want to team up.
