Ascent of Helmet Butte on 2019-07-06
|Date:||Saturday, July 6, 2019|
|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||7400 ft / 2255 m|
Ascent Trip ReportIn combination with a scramble of Fortress Mountain. Beautiful campsite in the trees at 5900ft below Pass No-Pass. Ascended to Pass No-Pass then bushwacked up the steep slopes for a couple hundred feet staying just south of the ridge crest. Followed meadow terrain using marmot trails as a system of ledges to switchback up the slopes; tons of marmots up there. Scrambled up north face of summit block using convenient rock ledges that ran the length of the summit; felt like stairs. Clouds to the west; theoretically Glacier would be there. Great views down to Buck Creek Pass and a tent on Flower Dome. From the summit it looked like a rocky class 3 gully extends from Buck Creek Pass right to below the summit. Descended the same way but found a slightly less bushwacky route for the final hundred feet.
