Ascent Trip Report

i drove in from the east via the SP directions (the "from salt lake city" directions), but that road becomes very rough, lots of rocks. i hated it. it took an hour from nounan, probably something like 1.5h from pavement to trailhead.

the hike was enjoyable though... but too short given the horrible drive. yet another summit without a register, there's an ammo box, but there's nothing in the ammo box. the ammo box is inside a wooden crate on a post, which seems to have an old emergency phone shell inside it. no idea what that's about.

i found a better route on the way out: i took my chances and continued along the sherman peak / skinner canyon road heading roughly south. this worked out significantly better: you still need all-terrain tires to deal with some relatively short sections of rocks, and there are some nasty ruts (and a couple easy snow berms and some mud)... but it was only 3.5mi or so of the tough road before hitting the more well maintained roads in the canyons (8 mile creek road i think). i was at pavement in 35 minutes.

attaching southern driving track.
