Ascent Trip Report

Trout Brook Mountain loop, starting from parking area at Trout Brook Farm campground. Took western part of the loop up, eastern down. Only party on trail as of 11am. Never experienced bugs this vicious - probably a combination of extreme mugginess and Northern Maine isolation. Absolutely inescapable, with some rare moments of reprieve on the way up. A distinct mosquito/black fly line somewhere near the middle of the mountain. Really difficult to focus on much else during most of the hike. Finally took a break at the top, coats bundled up despite 30C sun. Some good views of the back-side of Traveler from up top. Enjoyed a great barrel-aged sour beer from Allagash. Thunder started roll in, so boot-chucked it down 2.3 miles in an hour. Lots of hikes to do in Northern BSP, but this was a good warm-up for longer hikes this summer.
