Ascent Trip ReportMy second hike for the day was to make it to the summit of Red Mountain, since I was too low on energy the day before. I drove to the end of the dim 4WD trail which ends at a very nice saddle that would make for a good tent site camp. It is only 0.6 miles to the end and is drivable in a 4WD, but be prepared for some new pin stripes as it is grown in on both sides.
I followed the same route that I had started the day before and that ultimately put me onto a scramble climb up steep big boulder rocks for the last few hundred feet elevation. Nothing difficult and free from bushwhacking, but did require hand use for balance. The summit is a bit grown up, but open for nice views in all directions.
I started my descent toward the north and then followed a very well defined game trail that reconnected me with my route up. All in all I was satisfied with the route and, of course, for the successful summit. |
