Ascent Trip ReportSouth Kinsman 4358 ft. North Kinsman 4293 ft.
North and South Kinsman are the highest peaks in the Cannon-Kinsman Range, which also includes Cannon Mountain (4100 ft.) at the northern end, and the three Cannonballs in between. The Kinsmans lie on the Appalachian Trail, and are easily reached from several directions. On a clear day the peaks offer stunning views of the Franconia Range (Lafayette, Lincoln, Liberty and Flume) to the east. There is also abundant camping in the area.
We will hike to North Kinsman and over to South Kinsman. We will meet at the West side of the Franconia Notch Parkway (Rt 93), at the picnic area at the end of the south parking lot of Lafayette Campground. We will ascend via Lonesome Lake, to Fishin Jimmy, to Kinsman Ridge Trail to North Kinsman which provides a fine outlook to the Franconias, descends steeply a bit to a ledge that looks directly down on Kinsman Pond. We will continue on to South Kinsman and return on the same trails. I hiked the Kinsman earlier this summer with Dianna and Robin and we were all amazed at how beautiful the views were. If you are heading North on 93 you will need to get off the cannon mtn tram exit and go under the overpass and then turn left to get on to 93 south and lafayette place will be on your right ..
This will be an above average hike with ladders and rocks to climb over .
