Ascent Trip Report

Due to differing stories, I decided to book a guide (not something I like to do often!), and decided on Icelandic Guides. They were excellent, and we had 1 guide leading a 6 person team, starting at 0300 and returning at 1700. There is a trail up to 700m, then with clear visibility no problem seeing trails across the very easy glacier, crater, and final slightly steeper ascent. The walk is straightforward, and even late in the year the crevasses were clear and easy to cross. Due to the excellent weather, we felt a guide was, in the end, unnecessary, but we may have been saying something different in the typically changeable and poor weather in Iceland. A good hike, started from the parking 10km east of skaftafell near the lonely tree!
