Ascent Trip ReportPart of a multi-Peak climb from Bull Gap.
From the closest peak, I headed east from Wolfden Knob on the MST down a moderate but narrow slope. Somebody with a weed whacker and a chainsaw has been through here recently. Good for trail site, overnight cobwebs and general guidance. However, the debris hides rocks, roots and other obstacles that tend to be bothersome. On the whole I am thankful for the MST trail volunteers, but
I made myself careful of foot placement.
The .75 mile hike to Lane Pinnacle seemed a lot longer and tougher than described by others. The route was alternatively pleasant and tough. The last 40 yards is especially rocky, almost requiring a moderate rock scramble. Made it to the briar infested summit with no views and quickly walked down to the outcropping just below. Paused here for some great views of the Asheville watershed, Great Craggy Mountain, Swannanoa Mountains and the valley below. Even caught a view of Little Pisgah Mountain and the peaks around the Hickory Nut Gorge.
The temps were climbing into the 80's, and being worn out by the hike so far, I hydrated and headed back to the car. Long slog, but great hike!
