Ascent Trip ReportEasy drive-up. There appeared to be a paint ball battle going on in the big abandoned building on the summit.
While you are here, stop at Bogli Road (5 miles from the summit, 3 miles from US 95). When you turn north on Bogli Road there is a cluster of boulders in the field to your right. This is where Lt. Rains and 11 men tried to take cover during the Nez Perce War. They were overrun and all died. Capt. Whipple and approximately 100 soldiers heard the firing from a mile away but chose to dig in rather than advance. Nez Perce warriors said that one of Rain's men was still alive despite a terrible wound. Someone said he should be put out of his misery but they were afraid of his strong "medicine". An old warrior finally shot the man.
