Ascent Trip Report

**Current timber sale/harvesting on Gold Mt. Proceed at your own risk.**

DIRECTIONS
Google right to popular trailhead. Gold Mt. trail is on South end of parking lot just past toilet; Gold Creek recreation area is on North end.

EXPERIENCE
Had cancelled Mt. Deception Wed/Thu because of weather but still had The Brothers for Sat/Sun so had some down days. Realized I could nab Gold Mt. while in the area so drove over to the islands. The night before, enjoyed some amazing music at the Swimdeck in Silverdale, had a blast at awesome Tik Tok Workship arcade bar in Bremerton, and toured the Turner Joy destroyer in Bremerton as well.

Encountered timber sale flagging at TH but proceeded since I had already driven over. Steepish trail through woods for first 0.6 miles. Newly cut logging road halfway through trees not on map bisects trail. Continued along logging roads the rest of the way once out of the trees. Avoided a couple pieces of machinery coming down road on Southern East/West leg. Didn't see any evidence of recent tracks after road junction at 47.5435, -122.8135 which is the "upper" uphill section. Followed road all the way to summit. Tagged bulge near tower but true HP is Westerly knob - 2nd class on West side, 3rd class East side. Returned the way I came and avoided a pickup truck through the same Southern East/West leg.

Some nice views through the clearcuts but otherwise unremarkable.

RATING
1/1 ACCESS - popular TH
1/2 REMOTENESS (Popularity, Sight/Sound) - semi-popular TH
1/1 CONDITION - established trail and logging roads
0/3 VARIETY (Flora and Fauna, Geological, Terrain) - nothing of note except all the foxglove in the clearcuts
1/3 VIEWS - interesting views of Puget Sound and Eastern Olympics but nothing incredible
TOTAL 4/10
(does not include difficulty since hikers may prefer opposite extremes)
