Ascent Trip Report

On my quest to summit as many odd ball peaks as possible, I ran this mountain bike mountain that towers above the Wenatchee skyline when you are looking West. It winded up a 3 mile long maintenance vehicle road, I think used mostly by a mountain bike group. I was running, but it would be a really easy hike; even one who isn't in the best shape could probably summit in about an hour and a half. Running was difficult, and I walked for much of it. I made it up to the ~3 mile mark in 41 minutes. At the 3 mile mark the road splits off into a Y. The two forks of the Y go to the two lower peaks on Hose Lake Mountain. In between the two forks, is a trail up a steep loose trail that leads to the true summit located in between the two lower peaks. This is really the only moderately rough section of the trip. It could almost be considered class 2, and on a hot day there would be little protection from the sun. It took me about 20 minutes to go from the Y to the summit and back to the Y. I found a bench mark on a small outcropping maybe 4 feet up from the footpath, though the actual summit appeared to be about 150 yards further North along the footpath. Going down from the Y back to the truck took around 25 minutes jogging, including a stop to watch some deer and to give some wild turkeys as much peace as possible.

NOTE: the last 3/4 mile down No. 2 Canyon Rd is very rough. Do not take a low clearance vehicle up it. If you take your Subaru anything up it, you will likely end up with massive damage to the underside of your vehicle if you do. Large SUVs and small pick ups are about the smallest vehicles one can use to make it to the trail head. 4x4 recommended but not needed.
