Ascent Trip Report

I was the first entry in the register since 2016, and only the 6th since 2010. Nice views to the north and south up top! The Russell Creek trail could definitely use a thorough brushing, but it's not too hard to follow for the most part. Don't follow the summitpost directions to the trailhead- they're out of date. Somewhere along the line the road across the dam was abandoned and is no longer in use. Instead turn on 277 just west of the dam, and follow signs for Calamity Campground. The road is good all the way up, and Russell Creek is well before the CG. The hike is about as described. The summit, like many in this area and elevation range, was covered in breeding ladybugs by the thousands. Unfortunately, almost all of them had died in the previous night's freeze. The few remaining survivors were crawling around, no doubt trying to process their bleak new reality. Fortunately I was having a far better day than them. Neat view of the Tetons perfectly framed by Palisades Canyon, with Baldy and Sheep flanking.
