Ascent Trip Report

I started at 9:20 AM and arrived at the Panar Laban Hut @ 3:30. I found out I had to get a walk-in permit and a guide at the Kinabalu Park entrance before starting the hike at the Tymphoon Gate. It rained at about 1:00 PM and even with a poncho on I got soaked. I had to hang up my wet clothes and they never dried. Luckily I still had my winter clothes in my bag I could wear. I ate at the restaurant at the Laban Rata Resthouse at 4:30 PM and hung out there until 7:30 PM. I went to bed at 8 pm and then got up at 1:20 AM to get packed up and eat breakfast at 2 AM. I started the hike to the summit around 2:30 AM and reached the top near 6 AM in time for sunrise. Towards the top there were these ropes to help with the steep sections and prevent us from slipping. I got back down to the restaurant and cabin at 8 AM and then commenced going the rest of the way down at 9:30 AM. It was very steep and it was hard to think that we climbed up all those steps. I got back close to 1 pm at the gate before it started raining and thundering.

Hardest was getting use to rain, sweat and humidity.
