Ascent Trip ReportDIRECTIONS
Follow 2270 to fork at Clark Creek 47.4898, -123.5274. Follow semi-rough road up to second hairpin turn where road dead-ends just around bend.. Fine for SUV/AWD. Would be rough in front-wheel drive; has maybe been improved since previous trip reports?
Relatively quick climb considering the steepness and shwacking. Follow old logging road until it ends on 7.5' map. Tempting to begin ascending the in the clearing before the true end but I had to schwack up onto the ridge in the end anyway where it is has less undergrowth. I deviated from previous lines and hugged the cliff edge all the way to a mini saddle. Previous tracks are less steep and dip in and out of open clearings but have less large trees for veggie belays. The next 300 vertical feet on the West ridge is not recommended unless you're comfortable with exposed 4th class scrambling though. It worked fine enough for me and I was quickly on top of Gray's Harbor CoHP. I tagged the other points just in case which only took another 20 minutes then descended in the North bowl along previous tracks. Great views all around and fun summit scramble!
Lots of people camping along Wynochee road. Couple bros shooting somewhere along the approach road while I was on the summit.
0/1 ACCESS - difficult for someone without SUV. Could park at first hairpin to add 800 ft gain and a few miles roundtrip
2/2 REMOTENESS (Popularity, Sight/Sound) - can't imagine anyone up here unless they're going for the CoHP
0/1 CONDITION - rough road, no trail, direct ascent
1/3 VARIETY (Flora and Fauna, Geological, Terrain) - some second growth and fun summit block scramble but nothing else
2/3 VIEWS - maybe some hill views on the drive in but nothing otherwise
(does not include difficulty since hikers may prefer opposite extremes)
