Ascent Trip Report

The Angosture TH is located just off NM-518. At mile marker 46.5 turn onto FR-89 (not signed). Trailhead parking lot is the first thing you see. A sign advises to park in the parking lot and hike 3/4 mile up the road to the trailhead. I went ahead and drove up FR-89 to have a look see. The road deteriorates the further you go with limited turnarounds and few parking places. Something that is not obvious is the trail to The Knob follows an old 4WD, which is a continuation of FR-89, all the way to the junction with Trl#19A, the Agua Piedra Trail. In the meadow where the trails meet there's a large metal sign next to an old 4WD road stating, "No Vehicles". That road goes to The Knob. It squirts along the east side of the summit knob so its necessary to leave the road and bushwhack up the slope to the HP.

The distance from the designated parking lot to the summit is about four miles one way. One major stream crossing: Rio Angostura -still running high.
