Ascent Trip Reportattached driving track is paved for quite a ways up the mountain. eventually clearance is required, but other than some mud the road didn't offer much difficulty. i recommend stopping where my track ends: it is the last chance to turn around unless you drive the whole way to the top. when i reached that point i thought "i should stop here..." except i didn't. i kept going, and it's like burd mentions: narrow with many pin-striping opportunities. i did get out and clip and saw, i probably could have hiked it faster if i had just parked.
i ended up stopping my gardening at a point where i could make a 15 point turn... and it turns out that if i had just continued gardening another 20' i would have opened it all the way to the top. so, you're welcome whichever CC person comes here next. (i still recommend stopping at the end of my track where you can turn around.)
oh: brannan mountain had essentially no views... one direction might have a view, but it was fogged out this morning. does not belong on a peak list.
about the "locked gate" way point: that was just another investigation into the 1500' prominence un-labeled "Peak 4260" a mere 1.4mi north of the waypoint. if you read burd's report you'll see he found two abandoned grow sites, and various buildings... if you look at the satellite view you can clearly see someone's house near the summit. the locked gate is potentially access to this summit, but it's negatively signed, and it's an in-holding in the forest. (although 4260 itself seems to be forest land.) i didn't feel like trespassing for what looks like a viewless summit anyhow.
