Ascent Trip Report

Drove in from the West and arrived at 3:30am Saturday morning of Memorial weekend. Slept in the truck at Onion Pass instead of Rustler campground, so as not to wake everyone up. That wasn't necessary because there wasn't a single camper in the park. Paid $5.00 to drive in and park at a "trailhead". There's enough room for maybe 3 vehicles where my tracks start. The road there is rocky but short. Hiked straight to Chiricahua Peak which has trees on it's peak obstructing a majority of the view. Went on to hit Anita Peak, South Flys Peak, Flys Peak, and 9308 on the way back. Tracks avoid most of the 10' tall bushes surrounding Anita Peak. There is a small section to push through on the North side of the peak but it's easier than it looks. The use trail over Flys Peak needs to be cleared, lots of downed trees to climb over. Overall, it's a pretty hike with disappointing views at most of the peaks. This one is more about the journey than the destination. Park rangers are active even if the locals aren't. We waved to them on the way out. The roads are in great shape from the West and the East. We drove all the way through to Portal.
