Ascent Trip Report

Last free monday on this side of the state so I went for the Mendocino high point, bonus being a fire lookout that hasn't burned or been decommissioned (i.e. pushed off the edge). The weather last week meant that there was a fresh coat of the white stuff. But I was thinking using the road was an option. Clear through Mendo pass and then pretty ok on the M4 for about 2 miles where I decided to not press my luck and parked the car. Stayed mostly on the road until I kinda lost it in the drifts. Headed straight up at this point. The big push of snow at the crest was a little worrisome but I found a spot where I hoisted myself up and didn't cause an avalanche. Windy and cold at the top so I didn't dawdle. Couldn't manage to follow the road back down either.
