Ascent Trip ReportGot lost below long john tower. Rime and ice in cracks. Very good neieve on approach, new wet slides throughout area on way back. Thunderstorms nearby helped us decide to retreat. 8 hours from parkinglot to 8700ft, then 3 hours trying to figure out where to go. 5 hours back. Soloed 5th class and bootied an old hex while headed up in the wrong direction, before realizing we were off route. Collin haley climbed the north ridge a week ago, and two other strong climbers ascended the west ridge that day as well. We encountered ryme and water ice and found the technical climbing to be challenging.
430am start from the ingals parkinglot. No one else on the mountain from that side.
