Ascent Trip Report

Drove up night before slept near TH. Complete road washout at very end of road about 300 meters from TH. Road had lots of potholes kinda rough.

Woke up at 4am got going at 5am with enough light to not need headlamps. A few sketchy stream crossings with snow cover at point that falling through is a potential. Got to Hannegan camp at 7am where snow is pretty much continuous. Weaved to the left following the trail. Had to put crampons on to traverse back to the right where drop down to Hannegan Pass. With the snow a more direct route from the CG area would have saved some effort. From Hannegan pass a steep climb up to the base of point 5930. The snow was pretty solid so some ankle twisting. Making it around the pass and over the cornice (or berstrung?) which was no problem. We could then see the saddle and view up Ruth.

We took a break at the saddle and roped up for the climb up. Beautiful views on the way up and snow varying from mostly solid to slush and partial post holes. Near the top I swapped lead with Eric and finished out the ascent. After a false summit we made it to the peak at 11:30. The top was all fresh and clear as we were the first ones up. About 15 minutes later a solo AT guy and his dog showed up... then we could see some groups coming around point 5930, most on skies.

Spectacular view of Shuksan and baker in the background (ones I had been up the last couple years;) We started down and Jacob was the first to take off crampons and slide down to the saddle. I removed mine and took part of maybe the best gliscade of my life. I could have gone super fast if I didn't dig the spike in deep enough to stay in control.

Lunch back at the saddle the guys had their burritos:)

On the way back decided to try a 'shortcut' going around the other side of point 5930. We went down above the trees and followed the solo skiers tracks down a steep chute. Not the safest route but no injuries. Then traversed over to the trail through the Hannegan CG area.

A walk down the mountain getting back to the car at 4:15pm
