Ascent Trip Report

Backpacked over Paiute Pass, turned north, and camped near lake. Before dark, started climb up standard route. This was Neal Robbins' E provisional with Tom McDonnell evaluating. Near the summit, Neal explored another route which took an hour. Then we went up the standard route, summitting quite late. It was very cold and I was climbing with all my layers including down and gortex shell. Rappelled down. Climber injury. I stayed with the injured climber overnight in freezing temps with never-ending 20mph winds gusting to 35mph with no shelter. 15min sleep. Used SPOT to call for help, which arrived at 7:40am (SAR climbed 5th class from the east side starting at midnight!). Military helicopter (burly 37-troop) from Stockton took injured climber. Backpacked out, getting to parking lot at 6pm.
