Ascent of Mount Baker on 2019-05-12Date: | Sunday, May 12, 2019 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Mount Baker | Location: | USA-Washington | Elevation: | 10781 ft / 3286 m |
Ascent Trip ReportA great trip planned with only 3 days notice to hit a weather window. Sunny, calm, and very warm at the trailhead Saturday. Trail was mostly free of snow for the first mile or two; soft snow once we reached the climbers route. Camped at around 7k feet where it was calm and 34 degrees overnight. Started climbing Sunday at 3 am and reached the summit a little after 7 am. On the summit it was 24 degrees and very windy - we did not stay long. Stepped/jumped over 3 very narrow crevasses, each no more that 12-16" across. Descent to camp and then car was uneventful, though it warmed up again and snow was very soft with lots of annoying postholing. |
