Ascent Trip Report

Parked at Manker Flat along Mt. Baldy Rd and took the Baldy Bowl Trail to the summit.

From the trailhead, the route followed an access road, partially paved and partially dirt, past a lookout toward San Antonio Falls to the point where the trail turns into a footpath rather than a dirt road. From that point, it climbed up toward the bowl via switchbacks. The cloud cover blocked the views off the trail at first, but then they started to open up and revealed the Baldy Bowl and surrounding ridges.

Past the ski hut, the trail got progressively steeper as it climbed to the ridgecrest near West Baldy. Once at that point, it more less went straight up to the summit, with the most significant snow cover coming just below it.

Unfortunately, the summit was socked in the whole time I was up there, and the clouds got thicker and lower as I started hiking down. Ah well, it was an awesome hike with great trailside views and terrain, flora, and fauna I'd never seen before.
