Ascent Trip ReportSat-Sun climb with Jared, Alex and Ben. Jared wrote up an excellent TR with pics on the Mountaineers.
Road was gated at Bridgecreek campground but basically snow free and dry until just before TH parking lot. Meant to but did not check if the bathroom was unlocked.
Only party on the NBC. Not sure if others ascended and descended the glacier while we were on route but possibly not. Did see a couple backcountry skiers who said they were on Dragontail summit and saw our group over on the Colchuck summit.
Mixture of snow conditions on route from hard steep snow (but not true ice) to sugary soft (particularly around rocks on NW face).
Each person used two tools and crampons. Harness plus average gear
Each team had
30m 8-8.5mm rope (40m would have been nice)
4 pickets with double slings
4 single alpine draws and a few doubles (useful for slinging rock horns
Variety of nuts (nut tool)
Single cams (black diamond)
- small blue .3
- silver .4
- purple .5
- green .75
- red 1
- gold 2
All pickets were used
I don’t think any nuts were placed
Cams were definitely helpful, not sure if we found a spot for gold in our particular line.
Slung some rocks.
